For the ninth edition of LEADERSMEETING@PARIS, we have chosen “Times of Transition” as our central theme.

  • Mr. Wouter Beke, chairman of CD&V, member of the federal parliament, and mayor of Leopoldsburg

    Wouter Beke is the current chairman of CD&V and mayor of Leopoldsburg. He is undoubtedly one of the most important politicians in Belgium.

  • Ms. Françoise Chombar, CEO of Melexis

    Françoise Chombar is co-founder, CEO and Director of Melexis. Before starting there, she worked for Elmos GmbH and the Elex group. Next to being CEO of Melexis she is equally president of the STEM platform, an advisory board to the Flemish government.

  • Mr. Piet Goddaer, singer-songwriter and producer

    Piet Goddaer, also known as Ozark Henry, is a composer and producer as well as an arranger. That means he’s completely involved in every aspect of his albums’ development. His debut album came out in 1996 and was unanimously well-received.

Marc De Vos, Director of Itinera

Marc De Vos holds a Licentiate and Doctorate in Law (UGent), a Master in Social Law (ULB), and a Master of Laws (Harvard University).

He is the director of Itinera and teaches employment and labour law, European law, and the rule of law, at Ghent University, the University of Brussels, and at various international universities.

He writes, lectures and debates on issues of labour and employment law, European integration, labour market reform, pensions, healthcare, ageing and the welfare state, both nationally and internationally, and in academic, professional and policy circles, as well as in the media.

Peter Vandermeersch, Editor-in-chief NRC

Peter Vandermeersch is a Flemish journalist. He studied history in Ghent, journalism in Paris, and political sciences at Harvard. From 1988 through 2010, he worked for De Standaard. He started out reporting on culture and afterwards became its Paris and New York correspondent. In 1999, he became editor-in-chief. In February 2006, the Vlaamse Uitgeversmaatschappij, which was renamed Corelio later that year, appointed him general editor-in-chief of its newspaper division. That gave Vandermeersch final responsibility for the editorial policy and the commercial positioning of De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad, and De Gentenaar.

Since 1 September 2010, Vandermeersch has been the editor-in-chief of NRC Handelsblad. From its Amsterdam headquarters, he leads the fourth-largest newspaper in the country, which reaches some 200,000 readers every day.

Piet Goddaer, singer-songwriter and producer

Piet Goddaer, also known as Ozark Henry, is a composer and producer as well as an arranger. That means he’s completely involved in every aspect of his albums’ development. Ozark Henry’s debut album came out in 1996 and was unanimously well-received.

In 2015, Piet Goddaer recorded an album with the Belgian National Orchestra. This was turned into a 3D experience thanks to high-tech recording and surround mastering. In so doing, he became on the first artists ever to use this 3D audio technology.

Along with his father, Piet Goddaer is a United Nations goodwill ambassador. In this capacity, he combats international human trafficking.

Françoise Chombar, CEO of Melexis

Françoise Chombar is co-founder, CEO and Director of Melexis. Before starting there, she worked for Elmos GmbH and  the Elex group. Next to being CEO of Melexis Ms Chombar is currently member of the Board of Umicore, a global materials technology and recycling group. She is equally president of the STEM platform, an advisory board to the Flemish government, aiming to encourage young people to pursue a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics education.

She was a mentor to the SOFIA Women’s Network for 17 years, a coaching, networking, and educational program for women active in the profit sector. Françoise Chombar’s long-term commitment to actively advocating more STEM and more gender balance is driven by the profound belief in their positive societal impact.

Ms Chombar has a Master’s Degree in interpreting (Dutch, English, and Spanish) from Ghent University, where she received an Honorary Ambassadorship for Applied Language Studies in January 2012.

Wouter Beke, Chairman of CD&V, member of the federal parliament, and mayor of Leopoldsburg

Wouter Beke graduated with a PhD in social sciences in 2004. That same year, he first tested the waters of an active political career, becoming both alderman for social affairs in Leopoldsburg and a senator.

In 2010, the political management and the general meeting entrusted Beke, then vice-chairman, with the interim chairmanship. Later that year, the members of CD&V officially elected him general chairman for a three-year term. Both in 2013 and 2016 this mandate was extended for another three years.

Since 2013, Wouter Beke has also held the office of mayor of Leopoldsburg.

Jonathan Holslag, Professor International Politics at the Free University Brussel.

Jonathan Holslag teaches international politics at the VUB. His research focuses on geopolitics, international political economy, and Asia. Singapore’s national newspaper recently called him one of Europe’s most influential Asia experts. Jonathan has published bestselling books, translated in several languages. He has lectured at numerous universities, including the Central Party School of China and the General and Ambassadors Course of NATO. He is Special Advisor to the First Vice-President of the European Commission and was nominated into the Trilateral Commission, the World Economic Forum and the Strategic Foresight Group of the Government of Singapore. He has a column in Knack, de Volkskrant and South China Morning Post.

Bernard Gilliot, President of the Federation of the Belgian Enterprises

Bernard Gilliot started his career in 1980 at Tractebel Engineering- Energy as Design Engineer related to Electrical Grid Control. Later on he joined the project management team in Power Production. Since 2016, he is Executive Vice-President Global Development.

In March 2017 Bernard Gilliot was appointed President of the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium(FEB). FEB comprises over 50 sectoral federations and represents more than 50,000 companies, accounting for 80% of employment in the private sector.
