19 Nov Belgians, dream bigger dreams!
The Covid-19 pandemic outbreak was a predictable surprise. Yet even before that, health care has long been one of the biggest challenges we face as a society. The neck breaking speed of innovation, the biorevolution, the ever increasing complexity, the digital revolution, tech and pharma converging, the exponential connectivity – no one player that can tackle these challenges on its own. Society is looking at us all to form networks and come up with solutions. The way in which we have gone from a viral outbreak to a genomic sequence in weeks, and to a vaccine on the brink of becoming available to people in need in less than 9 months is remarkable and a tribute to human ingenuity, innovation and exceptional collaboration in the life sciences industry. What can we learn from that experience? Will the connections that have formed during the crisis continue to be meaningful for a long time to come? What can we learn from hotspots of innovation and big (bio)tech production houses like Silicon Valley? Can we -or should we- Belgians dream bigger dreams?
